We are seeking college students with a federal work-study award. Work study opportunities are available at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts Shop and the Pittsburgh Filmmakers Equipment Office.

PCA SHOP: Holiday Shop Retail

The shop is seeking an experienced retailer with a passion for art and strong customer service skills. Successful candidates will help assist in set-up and display as the shop expands into a large space for the annual Holiday Shop. Shop staff is also expected to familiarize themselves with individual shop artist’s medium, style, and approaches to their creating in an effort to best inform interested patrons.

PF: Equipment Office

Duties include assisting students and members with equipment questions, assisting instructors, dispensing equipment, equipment and facility maintenence, mixing chemistry, film projection, and some light clerical work. Internships in exchange for access may be arranged. Experience in film, video, photography, and computers is helpful, but not required.

PF Youth Media: Tech Instructors

Pittsburgh Filmmakers Youth Media is seeking Tech Instructors for summer and school-year programming. If you have an affinity for animation, video production, Minecraft or programming, get in touch! We're looking for folks who love to geek out about tech and can infect students with enthusiasm. We're looking for folks who are content experts and can demonstrate significant experience in their field. The program is growing quickly and chosen applicants can expect to work with us regularly. 

PCA School: Fashion Design/ Sewing Instructor

Position Description:
PCA is hiring an artist with experience with techniques in fashion design and sewing fundamentals. The artist will teach middle school and high school fashion design and sewing programs beginning this upcoming summer and continuing on an on-going basis into the school year. Instructors must submit lesson plans and attend an art camp orientation before summer programs begin. All artists are independent contractors; this is not a part-time position.

PF Youth Media: Video Game Design and Makers

Pittsburgh Filmmakers Youth Media program is seeking makers, tinkerers, and Scratch enthusiasts to teach students ages 8 - 18. Applicants should have prior teaching experience and one or more of the following skills, Scratch, Hummingbird robotics kit, Makey Makey. 

Opportunities are on an on-going basis, beginning in the summer of 2014. All teaching artists are independent contractors; this is not a part-time position.

PF Youth Media: Stop-Motion Instructors

Pittsburgh Filmmakers Youth Media program is seeking stop-motion instructors to teach children ages 5 - 18. Applicants should have previous experience in stop-motion animation and prior teaching experience. The ability to create stop-motion puppets out of armatures is a plus, but not required.

Opportunities are on an on-going basis, beginning this winter, with many more opportunities come summer. All teaching artists are independent contractors; this is not a part-time position.

PCA School: Child, Teen & Family Teaching Artist - Ceramics

Position Description:
PCA is hiring an artist to teach ceramics to children, teens and families. Opportunities are on an on-going basis beginning this winter, with many more opportunities come summer. PCA instructors must share PCA’s approach to arts education and art making, which emphasizes the balance between process and product. This means that our instructors impart to students the importance of the creative journey and not just the final outcome. All artists are independent contractors; this is not a part-time position.

PCA SCHOOL: Models Needed

Position Description:
The PCA is looking for models for drawing, painting and sculpture classes. Because certain classes rely on sessions with a live model, dependability is a must. Models should demonstrate an understanding of modeling for artists and the ability to pose for long periods of time. Models are paid hourly, and are scheduled on an on-going basis according to our course schedules.

Requirements:
Experience preferred, but not required.

Internships

All internships are unpaid. Opportunities available from weekly to full semesters. There is the option to continue the internship after one semester if agreed upon by the intern and supervisor. College credit is available upon request.

Qualifications: Must be reliable, mature, and able to handle responsibility with enthusiasm.

PCA School & Community Programs: Summer Dreamers Academy 2014 Interns

Position Description:
School & Community Programs at Pittsburgh Filmmakers/Pittsburgh Center for the Arts is seeking four to eight interns to work with us in implementing our art programs as Activity Providers to Pittsburgh Public Schools Summer Dreamers Academy, June-August 2014 (SDA operating June 30-August 6). This is a great opportunity for any one who loves art and is interested in hands-on experience in an arts-in-education program. Interns will be immersed in art-making in schools and the community! 

PCA School: Summer Teaching Assistant

Position Description:
Assistants will support the classroom instructors in weeklong studio arts camps for students ranging in age from 4 to 18. Camps begin on June 9 and continue until August 22. Weekend hours are also available. This is an unpaid opportunity with the possibility of college internship credits through participating colleges and universities.

PF/PCA Exhibitions

Position Description:
Interns will support the PF/PCA Exhibitions Department in one of more of the areas listed below. This is an unpaid opportunity with the possibility of college internship credits through participating colleges and universities. Internship positions are available on a semester schedule to coincide with local universities. One to three interns are selected at a time.

PCA SCHOOL: Ceramics Studio Intern Position

Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and maneuver a dolly fork truck. (Training will be provided).
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite.
  • The Ceramic Intern position will be a combination of physical and computer related work.
  • Ability to focus on multiple projects.

Position Description:

PF: Video Production

Production Services interns assist with all aspects of our small production team. On-set and off-set, you gain hands-on experience from pre-production to post and produce marketing deliverables for PF/PCA programs and events. 126 hours unpaid work with small stipends for occasional grip work.

PCA SHOP: Holiday Shop Retail

A tradition at the Center has been the PCA annual Holiday Shop. Each year, PCA shop expands to fill two galleries on the first floor. Patrons come to purchase unique art pieces to gift to friends and family during this busy season. Interns will be asked to assist in set-up and display as the shop expands into such a large space, Interns are expected to familiarize themselves with individual shop artist’s medium, style, and approach to their creating in an effort to best inform interested patrons.
